We made two memes and realized they were still kinda blaming rats for the Black Death.
To be fair, rats likely did have some role, but then so did any warm-blooded creature that can host fleas. (Dolphins are clearly innocent :)
Also, black rats keep somewhat more distance to humans than brown rats who had't yet arrived in Europe then.
Rats get the blame because it’s not PC to blame it on Arab traders who brought it from the Middle East. But if we’re talking white people bringing smallpox to the new world, then flame away…
