All across the spectrum, the echo chambers beckon — and can be extremely tricky to resist.
Rat adds: perhaps false dichotomies is the most important tool used to corral people (and rodents) into echo chambers. Climate change or climate scam? Both are true, at least to some extent.
«Both are true» can be a quite powerful phrase at times.
False dichotomies can be false in several ways. Both options could be true, both options could be not true, or -- and this is the version I encounter most often -- the fallacy is pretending there are merely two options when there are many more (and many of those could have some truth to them).
The double bind is a favourite tool of compliance fetishists. It works like reverse zen on unwary people. Instead of epiphany, they get stupid and helpless.
