It takes quite some determination and tremendous organization to keep hyperinflation going with paper money, to ship all those piles around to pay salaries twice a day like they did in Weimar Germany at one point.
I don't think we have that infrastructure anymore – at least in these parts, a typical ATM holds less than a wheelbarrow of cash and runs out of fivers on a regular basis, despite telecommunications being much better these days.
Of course, electronic money makes organizing hyperinflation much easier – which is yet another reason to resist «cashless society».
