If you were quick enough, you’d at least get your money back, wouldn’t you?
Quick fact check notes:
for most of the history, indulgences were not understood as guaranteeing automatic remission of eternal punishment; they were marketed a «safe and effective» only in late 15th and early 16th century;
the worst period of abuse that sparked Protestant Reformation lasted just a few decades. In 1567 sale of indulgences was banned – but it was already too late.

Carbon tax credits… which were followed rapidly by Carbon taxes- at its WORST the Church didn’t make Confessional and absolution pay for play.
I wonder how long until the similar, temporal, bien pensant system of indulgences collapses. Probably not until exogenous subsidies can't keep pace anymore.
