Good thing rats aren't expected to be grammarians, else this Grammar Nazi would point out that it should be "the least of three evils". 😼
That said, the Rat version certainly sounds better.
I've met any number of sincere, well-meaning Lesser Evilists. Good intentions, sadly, are not street smarts. They have some awful blind spots. They don't understand that the competing evils are rivals, not enemies, and ultimately have much more in common with each other than they do with the voters. Another is the assumption that the competing evils don't factor the Lesser Evil voting strategy into their own calculations. Yet another blind spot is the inability/unwillingness to track the results of the strategy over time. If they did, they'd see the incremental ratchet effect.
