The notionally progressive people have an uncanny genius for turning things that are arguably virtuous on the personal level into devastating national and global freak shows.

It's however good than the idiocy has now been demonstrated on a somewhat-smaller-than-apocalyptic scale.

I think it was the transmission grid wasn’t thought through along with many other matters.

The Spanish PM …. 🤣

Not ruling anything out.

Mother Pucker don’t know what’s In, never mind out.

You can’t have power fluctuations up or down in terms of LOAD without the grid becoming unbalanced and go boom.

See that Frequency stuff MEANS SOMETHING. 50 ~ Hertz…

Never mind. Learn to cut wood 🪵 and start fires lol

More about the importance of inertia. Lots of good info before the paywall. https://www.public.news/p/the-spanish-government-is-lying-about

They want nature

Ok

Not sure what your reply means. I was just posting article that I happened to read this morning that explained the power fluctuations/inertia problem from an engineer's perspective.

Oh you’re absolutely correct.

I am saying these clowns really need to go back to nature lol. Here’s a book of matches and a camp axe and knife. Go stay alive in the woods 3 days…

A few hours of blackout and they’re crying in public.

Aside from the people, trapped in elevators etc., it does seem funny to me. We regularly have power outages lasting eight hours or more where I live. You learn to cope.

the long warred's avatar

Yes we don’t regularly have outages but do several times a year due to weather, last night for about 70 minutes for example.

High winds (60 mph) take down lines. Etc.

It’s uncanny how net zero overwhelmed geology, which explains past transformations on earth where seas became deserts, forest petrified and humans were nonexistent. It will not be climate change that sets humanity back, but front and center man’s boondoggles will be sufficient.

Some of them are aware of geology and biology, and it makes their ideas even more insane. Fortunately, «iron fertilization» (the idea of dumping iron compounds into oceans to cause mass algae bloom) seems to be happily forgotten for now. I haven't heard of it for years.

As my favourite climate sweeper Dr. Soon says, some people do not know the difference between climate and weather. What they hold for climate change is in fact weather.

Good for you sweet little rats for worrying about climate change when the really mean (don’t listen to him and develop really bad habits) Badass-Rat-In-Chief is deleting the word « climate » from all goverment documents, even when they’re only talking about the weather!

Orwellian engineering. “Resiliency” in the European Grid.

As in Iberia and France are all connected… it’s “resilient”.

I think they mean multiple streams of income.

When a local fault takes out a regional network this is the opposite of resilience.

If a ship at sea has watertight compartments and firewalls- the ones that stop actual fire- and a local problem doesn’t sink the ship then you have resilience.

If your house has circuit breakers or fuses that shut down a problem to keep it on one segment then you have resiliency.

On the contrary if you have a system that in the name of Efficiency - maximizes NORMAL output for minimal wasted inefficiency ~ aka those resistors, or batteries, or capacitors, or flywheels that take excess generated power and dump or store it - except that’s INEFFICIENT unless there’s a problem- then you have efficiency at the cost of resilience. You see resilience is redundant. This very moment you’re reading this the 1/0s transmission networks are 50% or more IDLE and Redundant.

The internet is so full of redundant inefficiencies MOST of the time that it would and does shock accounting.

What happened here is they engineered the solar-wind Chernobyl by not building the capacity to withstand completely understood requirements of a stable power system. Any homeowner could see the problem if he works on a home breaker box. The Iberia box has no breakers.

I utterly loathe that R word, in every context.

It's a word that should never be used. It's evil. It's an anti-word.

Usually, I lower my expectations much lower when people take that word, and the concept, seriously.

The meaning: it's a word invented by sociopaths to induce their victims to revictimize themselves over and over. It's reverse-gaslighting: in normal motion, the gaslighter tries to persuade her victims that the reality they perceive is false, and they are crazy, and need help. In reverse-gaslighting, the abuser tries to persuade people that an illusion is real, like "you are doing so much better now! good for you!" but they continue poisoning the victim and trying to mislead them away from the truth: they are receiving harm.

That's what the R word always means, in every possible context.

Sadly, most people think it's a good idea to participate in the deception, and they repeat the word. The concept is great, right? But people ought to be told the truth: they must defend themselves.
