When I was a little kid dad got paid in cash. Then came the postal account. The post office kept a few cents for the work. But it was so much safer not to have to carry your wages in money on you! Then came the banks. They paid a bit of interest. Then the economy went downhill and no interest anymore. Now you have to pay a fee (and I hear that it is way higher in Europe) for the bank to 'keep' your money safe, and there is no longer any interest for the bank to play with your money - the bank keeps all the gain for itself.
First, taxes were 'used' to build amenities, to repair roads, to do 'good' work and help people - or so we are told. Now taxes fill the pockets of the rich after being stolen from the poor and middle class people. Any reason for a tax is good - I remember tax on bicycles, tax on dogs, tax on water...
"Socialism – it's stock-keeping and control!" (attributed to Vladimir Lenin, likely not an exact quote but distilled from many utterances along these lines)
I would add that anything under surveillance could come with a cost, ask the protesters against genocide. Not a tax but possibly Imprisonment. Ask yourself why your government is not listening to the wishes of its citizens and you will come to the realization they have a plan and surveillance is its best tool to implement it.
The tragedy of humanity: technological and artistic improvements bring down costs and waste, and they increase efficiency and make life better for everyone, including those free riders who did not help inventing or developing anything.
Sounds pretty good, what is so tragic about it?
What is tragic is that real material progress destroys politics, dismantles social engineering projects and makes government redundant. Moreover, it proves that human history is a steaming pile of bonobo shit, and that dictators everywhere are nothing but dung beetles disguised as humans.
For evil people, any improvement is just an excuse to assault others and ruin beautiful things, making life worse.

Aha! Now we know the real reason for all these Flock cameras. Thanks, Rat! I can't wait for this new tax system to be adopted here in the USA.

Don't bring them to the idea! I just typed up a few of the taxes back in Belgium when I lived there LOL
How's that old saying go... birds of a feather deflock together? I dunno, something like that.
“Most of the time”
Rats are notorious for snatching cheese now and then. Also, making holes.
