Psychoanalysis
In which Rat finds a use for it
CWCID: inspired by James mentioning Narzissmus der kleinen Differenzen:
Uncle Sigmund developed his ideas mostly observing a specific subset of the population (namely, urban leisure class), and outside of it they do not apply well.
Politicians however might have a thing or two in common with Freud’s patients. They’re always struggling for attention (politics being the ultimate form of «attention economy»); and they function in the symbolic sphere, detached from the real world.
Perhaps, to avoid becoming a suitable object for psychoanalysis, one needs to do the proverbial «going outside to touch the grass» more often… or at least to clean up after the cat.

All the pols I have personally known have one common skill - self promotion. They might have had some other useful skills, but the one they honed was knowing how to get attention.
I absolutely loathed psychology classes - maybe even more than I loathe politicians. So it figures that they belong together.... Rat is on to something there! xx
