I think there's a strong tie-in between insecurity, pressure to conform and apparent stupidity. What appears to be stupidity is often, in part, a go-along to get-along strategy, i.e. conformism at the lowest common denominator. It's safe—or safer anyway, at least in the short run. It doesn't draw attention the way being both disagreeable and right draws attention. Of course in the long run, it leads to personal and community catastrophe.

Called "the dumb blonde act" or Genius Behavior - get someone else to do the work for you: "I am not sure how to do this... why don't you do it for me and then I can see how you do it."

*Marilyn Monroe was an intelligent women. She was an early pioneer for females to do weight lifting type of exercise, at a time when that was exclusively a male body builder sport.
