Rodents (and also humans) cannot be always skeptical, from time to time they need to consider something out-of-the-box.
To my knowledge, the theory that time travelers want to assassinate Donald Trump first surfaced in 2016 but it could indeed explain a lot — if you’re willing to accept the premises, of course.
CWCID: the idea that different teams of time travelers from different futures might be fighting for the control of our timeline has appeared in multiple fiction works but I snatched it from A Different Rake (Другие грабли) by Russian writer Sergey Musanif.
I read mostly science-fiction, and time travel is one of my particular favorite subgenres. In most of these, it's considered a really bad idea to attempt to change the past; one series even has a Time Police to enforce preservation of the timeline.
Time travelers is a feint, it is an alibi for the guilty. Spying on Donald Trump was done and okayed by President Obama. Occam’s razor, the simplest explanation is usually the best one.
