Human: — The BBC reports that public trust in news has reached a new low.
Rat: — Sounds plausible. Oh, wait...
Rat: — If I were to believe this news, it would no longer be true.
Can you trust the BBC when it says no one trusts the BBC? Prima facie, this seems to be a modern version of the good old Epimenides paradox (“All Cretans are liars”).


I seem to recall an old Star Trek episode where Captain Kirk got a robot to burn itself up with an infinite loop by using this paradox.
And in keeping with this paradox, the BBC avoided mentioning the real reason why people don't trust the news media, which is that they (the news media) lie all the time.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day, as the saying goes
