In the latest news, Microsoft has removed all (or at least most) workarounds that allowed one to set up Windows without getting a Microsoft account. The internets are fuming.

Funny how both Windows and Gates, both of which are portals, have become synonymous with evil.
There's a reason users of other operating systems call Windoze "The Dark Side".
Even a Mac user buying a non-cloud non-subscription version of Microsoft Office is required to set up a Microsoft account in order to activate it.
As a lifelong non-admirer of Bill-Gates-The-Epitome-of-Evil, when that requirement started years ago I resisted for a long time. Alas, I had to get Microsoft Word for work. (Yes, I know there are workarounds which I'm technically capable enough to use, but they're unwieldy and not completely compatible.)
