Enthusiasm
In which Rat doesn't share Cousin's optimism
Good time of day, humans!
Cousin occasionally gets to use our computer, too.
Transcript:
Cousin: — I like this new AI so much.
Cousin: — It’s so enthusiastic to help, much more friendly than humans.
Rat: — Cousin, sadly enthusiasm isn’t covered by the law of conservation of energy.
AI might already be getting lazy. I occasionally use Grok as an advanced search engine to dig up stories about obscure things and events, and most of the time it needs to be pressured with additional details to do the job. Here’s an example conversation. A tl;dr: version:
Me: — There was this weird incident where early Italian fascists used an airplane to steal a pig.
Grok: — That never happened, you’re misremembering things.
Me: — It happened near Fiume.
Grok: — Oh, you’re right! Here it is!
We’ve discussed «lazy AI» before:

It’s a mimic
Excellent example. I find AI to be somewhat useful for some tasks, but for researching not so much. It's always very polite and willing to admit when it's wrong, but unless you already know enough about the subject (in which case what's the point of consulting AI?), pretty useless.
At least Grok provides its sources. I notice that usually it only gives about four websites, if that. From my admittedly superficial observations, in that case it's not much better than somebody who believes everything they read on the Internet.
