Fireworks
In which Rat and Human are left on their own
Good time of day, humans!
According to Substack stats, about two-thirds of Rat’s subscribers come from the United States of America. Many of them will be shooting fireworks today (except four people in Massachusetts but that’s another story).
On a more prosaic note:
The American Pyrotechnics Association projected in late June that Americans would spend $2.4 billion during “fireworks season,” which peaks in the days before July 4, nearly $100 million more than last year.
The average cost of fireworks is down between 5 and 10 percent this year compared to last year, the association said, attributing the decline to lower ocean shipping rates.

I'm just grateful that we're not actually being bombed.
people complain about the cost of groceries but don't mind spending 200 bucks on a box of dangerous explosives that every year cause hand and eye damage. I know one person who lost a hand, and several who had burns. Once while looking in a park, a burning particle ruined my new blouse.
