The problem with such leaps is the sides have different modes of acquiring information. The supporters are more likely to take a singular announcement at the face value and be disgruntled about it; while the other side relies either on «gut feel» or «totality of available information» (in practice both mean about the same) and are unlikely to be swayed so easily. Hence, at least for a while Mark is going to be hated by both sides, and it might be a long while. Even Elon has hardly managed to convince anyone outside of his fan club.

Libertarian in the prevailing American sense of the word rarely has anything to do with tightly restrained governance, especially coming from oligarchs like Zucky.
