Scooch over, my good Monster, and make room for me.

Has Monster been there all along?

I'm interested in the fact that cousin has a regular human-shaped bed.

So, is Cousin's bed in the rat nest, or is the nest in the bed?

Rat's avatar

Most likely Cousin has two beds — one in the rat nest, one in the human house.

Off topic: We need to make Substack aware that losing subscriptions because people disable their email delivery is unacceptable. Most folks won't look for us on the app.

I’m not certain I fully understand the problem because I’m only using web reader, not the app. What I know is that notifications are broken in more than one way; for most unsubscribes, you don’t get one; but I’ve also received four notifications in a row for the same subscriber.

I’ve also seen people unsubscribe and re-subscribe immediately thereafter, which suggests accidentally unsubscribing is possible.

Not sure about “disabling email delivery”, is that an app feature? In web, one needs to dig quite deep to even try doing that.

Don't know what they click on, but Substack support told me that if they disable their emails, that's the equivalent of unsubscribing. Pretty shitty, if you ask me. I don't know about you, but I get say, 50 subs from Notes, but then I lose 40 from emails. 😅

I’ve been fluctuating between 1120 and 1160 since last November, no trend whatsoever. My theory is that people are just oversubscribed now, especially Notes users.

Do you get a notification that someone “Disabled” their email delivery? If you don't, you'll never know they've also “unsubscribed”, according to Support.

I do get some notifications, but the number thereof is certainly lower than the number of subscribers disappearing. (Maybe 1 in 4 but I have no precise numbers)

I’m not sure if this means that only one of several unsubscribing methods generates notifications, or is it just random.

Exactly. It's not a precise science. The way I understood it by Support is clear: We will only get one type of notification, a subscriber “disabled” their emails. Not the “unsubscribed” one. Like I said, I get more kick from Notes lately, than from the Web delivery. It's so bad that, until they fix the issue, I'll stop publishing via web.

I suppose it's the homeless monsters who hide under rocks.
