Good time of day, humans!
Sorry but I’m afraid we’re not going to have much fun today.
We didn’t know Peanut the Squirrel personally, but the news of fellow rodent’s death left us sad and distressed.
It is true that humans inflict a lot of abuse on each other day, with much cruelty, and most of them have become numb and desensitized to all that; but it’s the sheer inanity of Peanut’s death that stands out. Whatever faults Peanut’s humans may have had, Peanut himself can’t be blamed for anything.
Without going into metaphysics or attempting to discuss the inner workings of it, a «soul» is what gives you the ability to face hard choices, to act on incomplete information, to err, and to get better over time.
The government does none of that. It executes a program built of myriad often conflicting rules and regulations, feeding the program falsehoods and speculation. Garbage in, random violence out.
You’ll never have the perfect laws or perfect rules, no matter how many you write. Better look for humans who do not bail when confronted with hard choices, who have the will and willingness to to ignore the programming when their souls tell them to.
That’s my messy rant. Sorry again for it. I’ll get over this.
P.S. Rat’s Human is again off-line until late evening (Old World) / afternoon (New World), please don’t burn down the house meanwhile.
I am quickly warming up to Rat and his human, their sense of humor, wit, and common sense. The comments this morning about the bureaucracy executing that squirrel were especially well considered. All Hail Rat and his human. Ancient Paul from Texas
Missed in the glare of the news and outrage is we are all peanuts in our governments eyes.
