Safetyism assumes a mix of negligence, stupidity, recklessness, and crackpot determination that really only shows up near adolescence. There's a cull at that point. My cohort managed some bizarre ends. There was no way to thwart them. The one spark of ingenuity they had was finding the means to their own demise.
In fairness, some people do manage to make a full career of it, mostly by working through stupider proxies.
I remember a label on the cord of a grass mower - Do not cut the wire. One wonders who would want to cut the wire. But then the person who had bought it ran over it and cut it. They should have formulated that differently ! Do not run over your wire LOL
Statistics are hard to come by (as everyone cherry-picks the hell out of their numbers) but from what I've seen most incidents involve damaged cables and cords, not sockets.
But then, socket covers are cheap, easily installed and visible.
